50 years since they broke up
Their legend lives on
CJNU presents The Story of The Beatles – the CHUM radio documentary from 1970, Saturdays at 6pm through April 4th 2020 – plus a 12 hour marathon broadcast on Good Friday, April 10th 2020, 50 years to the day since the Fab Four parted ways.
Our re-broadcast has now ended, but you can Listen Again to the 12 hour marathon from Good Friday at the CJNU Archives, as your Juno award winning host Dan Donahue guides you through the show – bringing a modern lens to the original production, sharing some fascinating Winnipeg connections, and stories and reminiscences from notable folks about the impact of The Beatles.
Our eternal thanks to legendary audio engineer, musician and band manager Michael Gillespie for his tireless efforts in sourcing a copy of this programme and painstakingly restoring the reel-to-reel tapes. It is his passion and dedication that has made this broadcast possible. You can read about his quest in the feature article by David Sanderson from the February 28th 2020 edition of the Winnipeg Free Press.
The Story of The Beatles on CJNU is supported in part thanks to McNally Robinson Booksellers and The Winnipeg Free Press.
